"MPFFF!" Caz struggled to make herself heard but the chances were slim. She was bound and gagged, the ropes encircled her body in bands from her upper arms to her ankles and a blue bandana, which clashed with her long, pink dress, was tied in her mouth, muffling her cries for help. She had been placed on the railway tracks as an incentive to accept an unwanted marriage proposal, though Caz was not exactly being cooperative.
"Time's nearly up, my pretty!" The dastardly villain stood over Caz, laughing evilly. "If you won't be mine then no one else can have you!"
"MPFFF!" Caz shot him a contemptuous look and carried on straining against the ropes, trying to get free. A glance up the tracks showed the train was approaching and she only had seconds left!
"Well, goodbye then Caz; sorry to do this to you but you leave me no choice." The villain turned and walked straight into David's fist, knocking himself unconscious.
"I'll save you, Caz!" David shouted as he ran to his damsel's aid. He quickly lifted Caz clear of the tracks and held her tight as the train rattled by. It took no time at all to untie the ropes and remove the gag and after checking Caz was unhurt, he received kiss after kiss for his heroics.
"My hero!" Whispered Caz, between kisses. "I knew you'd save me."
"Always, darling." David whispered back.
---
"Hmm, that's the basic peril sorted but now I need to flesh it out into a proper story." David mused over the words he had written so far. "Maybe if I …" His thoughts were interrupted by the telephone ringing. He moved his laptop aside and reached for the handset.
"Hello?"
"Hi David." It was Caz, ringing to say she was leaving work for the day. A glance at the clock told him that she was late in finishing work again.
"How are you feeling, darling?" David asked and was rewarded by a sigh.
"I'm tired and fed up. It's been a horrible day; between miserable staff and the lack of organisation, things aren't' going well." Caz moaned. "I'm fed up of people taking it out on me."
"Come on home, darling. I'll be here to give you a good welcome." David told her. "I love you, Caz. Drive safely"
"I love you too, David. See you soon."
---
"It was horrible! She just kept on and on at me despite me telling her that she had rung the wrong department and I had to tell her I was trying to help and not to speak to me that way." Caz was sat on the sofa, held tight by David and crying into his shoulder. "That's the second time this week, plus I had a few of the nurses having ago because things aren't working properly and they seem to think I can just snap my fingers and put it right."
"They shouldn't be having a go at you." David stroked Caz's face and hair, trying to comfort his wife. "You can only do so much."
"They don't see it that way. At least madam is behaving herself a bit better." Caz sniffed. 'Madam' was a woman in the office where Caz worked; who had upset Caz a few days previously.
"I'm glad. She probably regrets it and knows she was in the wrong." David held her close. "But you're home now and don't have to think about that place for a few days."
"I know, it's just … oh, I don't know." Caz gave up; unable to find the words. "I just hope it improves soon."
"It will, darling. Now, have you got a smile for me?" David lifted Caz's chin up and kissed her gently. He smiled at Caz, who tried to smile back but didn't manage it. "Come on, don't you feel better, a little bit better. Just a tiny bit better? Maybe a miniscule bit better?"
As David persisted, Caz's tired smile turned to giggles then laughter as the stress started to melt away. Caz wrapped her arms around her husband and kissed him before snuggling up closer.
"Thank you, darling." Caz kissed him again. "I do feel better now. You really are so good to me."
"Hey, I'm your hero, baby! " David hugged her tight.
"You are; a true hero!" Caz agreed. "Who says heroes are all about rescuing damsels from villains or dragons? A proper hero does so much more!"
---
"Mpfff!" The woman struggled after being bound to her office chair. A full roll of parcel tape had been used, pinning the woman in the chair and making sure that the woman couldn't escape without help. Caz removed the last piece from the roll and used it to gag her captive.
"Right, that will shut you up for a bit!" Caz picked up another roll. "Now, where's that nurse who won't get off my back?"
Well, a girl can dream, can't she?

Tied to the Tracks
Chinese curse: May you live in interesting times.
For most of her life, Jennifer's life had been quite boring. Today was not boring. Extremely strange but not boring.
Jennifer's hands were tied securely behind her back and she was being led forcefully by a sinister man in a black outfit, a cape and a top hat. When Jennifer first saw the guy's hat she thought he was trying to be Abraham Lincoln and actually laughed at him.
He took offense at that and Jennifer quickly learned that laughing at him was a very bad idea. Too bad this was a lesson she learned after he tied her up and took her captive.

This was written as a birthday gift for my husband, .
While we both write stories which depict a hero saving a damsel from whatever peril she has got herself into, we have both remarked that a true hero saves his damsel from anything, including a bad day at work (of which just lately there have been a lot of them). I submitted this to the non-fiction category because this is just how we are and this is reflecting one such occasion that happened in the last week.
Also submitted to under E = Express Thanks as I really am thankful to David for his love and understanding when I come home stressed and/or upset as he always manages to cheer me up.
Happy birthday, my wonderful hero!
